Dried thyme
1/2 tbsp
Tomato Puree

Homemade Sausage Plait

  1. Heat the oven to 190’C
  2. Fry the onions in a large frying pan for about 5 minutes until soft. Add the sausage meat and stir until starting to brown. Add the carrot, apples, thyme and puree, mix well and cook on a medium – low heat for 7-10 minutes until the mixture is cooked through and soft. Add a good twist of black pepper and salt to your taste.
  3. Roll out the pastry on a floured work top so it is about 20cm by 30cm wide and about 5mm thick. Spoon the sausage mix so it is in a strip down the middle of the pastry, leaving enough pastry either side to wrap over it
  4. Leave an inch either side of the sausage mix and then cut horizontal strips in the pastry about 1.5cm apart towards the sausage meat. Bring one side of the pastry up over the sausage and brush with the egg and then repeat with the other side, again brushing with more egg
  5. Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
