For the burgers
1 tbsp
Olive oil
1 medium
White onion - peeled and finely chopped
1 large
Chilli - de-seeded and finely chopped
3 medium
Garlic clove - peeled and finely chopped
1 medium
Slice of bread - lightly toasted and whizzed into breadcrumbs
1 tbsp
Worcestershire Sauce
2 tbsp
Tomato Puree
1/2 tbsp
Chilli sauce
1/2 tbsp
500 grams
Beef steak mince
1 large
Egg - Beaten

To assemble
8 small
Burger buns
8 Portions
Tomato ketchup
8 Portions
Mixed leaves
Chilli Barbecue Burgers

This recipe will make 8 small burgers or 4-6 larger ones – it just depends on your appetite and whether you have lots of other delights going onto the BBQ at the same time!

  1. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan and fry the onion for roughly 5 minutes, until they have turned golden in colour. Add the garlic and the chilli and fry for another 2-3 minutes, stirring regularly.
  2. Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and mash together with a fork until you have an even mix of everything. Divide the mixture into 8. With your hands, shape into smooth balls and then flatten into a burger shape. Put the burgers on a plate, cover with cling film and chill for at least half an hour to give it change to firm up a little.
  3. Cook on a sizzling BBQ and serve in a soft bun with lots of cheese, ketchup and salad.
